—— Special Seasonal Services ——
Christmas Cantata
A musical addition to the holidays, the Christmas Cantata celebrates the joy of the season through music and/or drama. Both choirs join together and members of the congregation often participate. The Cantata is performed during both the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services on a Sunday in December.
Christmas Eve
Pineville UMC hosts three candlelight communion services on Christmas Eve. Services at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. give special attention to children. A nursery is available for infants and toddlers at the 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. services. An 11 p.m. service is more traditional in format and music.
Ash Wednesday
At this, the beginning of the season of Lent, we have an evening service in the sanctuary that ends with an opportunity for anyone who wishes to receive a cross of ashes on the forehead as a symbol of our mortality and our sin, but also of our hope in Jesus Christ. A nursery is available for infants and toddlers.
Maundy Thursday
On the Thursday before Easter, Pineville UMC hosts an evening service in the sanctuary that includes the reading of the Passion narrative, communion and hand-washing as a symbol of Christ's servitude - and our own.
Good Friday
On the Friday before Easter, we have a noon service in the sanctuary commemorating the crucifixion with Scripture readings, art and prayers.
