Pineville United Methodist Church of Pineville North Carolina

—— Ministry: Community ——

Pineville UMC strives to put into action Jesus’ words in Matthew 25:35:  “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in."  To that end, we go out into our community to share our time, talents and treasure in a variety of ways.

Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)  is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from acoholism.  The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking.

Pineville UMC hosts an AA meeting on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in Room 105.

For contact information for this meeting, reach the church office.

Caring & Sharing Fund

Gifts are used by the pastor to assist people in our congregation and community in times of crisis.

Charities We Support

Today’s United Methodists follow in the footsteps of the early Methodists by joining hands to support one another and to help God’s children wherever we can through apportioned funds, a connectional giving covenant that has become a strong, generous tradition and a lifelong personal commitment of United Methodists everywhere.   Learn more about Sharing Gods Gifts.

  • Africa University
    The fund supports the only United Methodist, degree-granting university on the continent of Africa, serving students throughout the sub-Sahara and providing a higher education of excellent quality, nurturing students in Christian values and developing visionary leaders of tomorrow.
  • Black College Fund
    The 11 historically black United Methodist-related institutions play a unique role in U.S. higher education:  their graduates – teachers, donors, ministers, bishops, judges, artists and entrepreneurs – are leaders in the African-American community and a rapidly changing country.
  • Episcopal Fund
    Bishops have always had a very special role in our church, elected and consecrated to speak to the church and from the church.  They also oversee and promote the church’s temporal and spiritual interests.  This fund enables bishops to lead the church in responding to needs related to education, health care, natural disasters, poverty and more.
  • General Administration Fund
    This fund finances general administrative, rather than programmatic, church activities (e.g., the basic costs of the General Conference).
  • Interdenominational Cooperation Fund
    United Methodists are a small part of the worldwide Christian church, the living body of Jesus Christ.  Our unity with other Christian communions is affirmed as we witness to a common Christian faith, meet human suffering and advocate for peace and justice all over the world.
  • Ministerial Education Fund
    Men and women choose the ministry because God calls them.  This fund helps them answer that divine call.  United Methodist seminaries lead the effort to proclaim God’s word in a world desperately in need of that message.
  • World Service Fund
    This is the heart of our denominational ministry, underwriting Christian ministry around the world.  By giving to World Service, we empower evangelistic efforts and stimulate spiritual commitment, church growth and discipleship.

Environmental Stewardship

Pineville UMC established a recycling program in 2008.  Bins labeled for paper, plastic, glass, styrofoam and other waste products are placed throughout each building on the church campus.  Everyone attending events at Pineville UMC is encouraged to help us be good stewards of God’s earth by placing trash in the proper bin.

The recycling program is only the beginning of our attempt to help Pineville UMC’s members and visitors become good stewards of all of God's gifts to us every hour of every day, not just on Sundays.  Other ways we’re caring for the environment include:

  • working to move our church away from non-recyclable styrofoam plates, bowls and cups to more environmentally friendly alternatives for our many fellowship events involving food;
  • beginning a composting program for the food waste at these same events;
  • making the switch to fluorescent bulbs wherever possible in church buildings and providing a collection bin in Stacy Hall for anyone to bring in their old CFLs for proper recycling and responsible disposal; and
  • speaking to Sunday school classes and other church groups on ways to be better stewards of our planet by reducing, reusing and recycling at home and work.

For more information about environmental stewardship at Pineville UMC, contact Kelly Rubottom.

Pineville UMC Gives Back

Pineville UMC has developed partnerships with Pineville and Sterling elementary schools to assist with family sponsorships for Christmas, family assistance throughout the winter months and volunteers for the school. The church “adopts” families and provides Christmas gifts for all family members, gas cards and grocery cards. We also provide a holiday meal for families as needed.

Room in the Inn

Since 1996, Charlotte’s Urban Ministry Center has been working with congregations of many faiths and local colleges to open their facilities one night a week to provide shelter and food for the homeless during the winter months.

Starting at 6 p.m. on the second and third Wednesdays of each month, December through March, Pineville UMC offers a warm, safe place to sleep; serves two meals (dinner and breakfast); provides a packed lunch for the next day; and returns guests to the Urban Ministry Center the following morning.

This ministry is supported by a Christmas Eve service Love Offering
