Reba & Charles Baker Scholarship Fund Committee

The Reba and Charles Baker Scholarship Fund assists church members (both youth and adults) who wish to further their education beyond high school.  Originally established in 1993 by Charles Baker in memory of his wife, Reba, the fund has helped over 100 church members cover the costs of tuition, books, housing, etc.  While providing financial assistance is a key component of this fund, it also helps to maintain a spiritual connection between the student and their church family while he or she is in school.

Congregational Care Area

The Congregational Care Area exists to provide loving support to members of the congregation as their needs are identified, thereby demonstrating the fullness of God’s love as reflected by Jesus Christ. This area of ministry includes:

  • assistance to shut-ins (visitation and delivery of recordings of Sunday service);
  • cards and calls to members in need of encouragement, sympathy or affirmation;
  • prayer chain as requests are identified and specific requests for prayers and expressions of concern are made to Sunday School classes and/or church leaders and members;
  • transportation to medical appointments;
  • running errands;
  • blood pressure readings;
  • exercise classes;
  • sitting for caregiver respite;
  • home repair, maintenance and yard work; and/or
  • meals for families at times of illness or death.

Education Area

The Education Area develops opportunities for all ages to study the Bible and hear its stories, develop their Christian faith, learn to apply Christian principles in their daily lives and share with others their struggles and questions as Christians. It includes:

Hospitality Area

The Hospitality Area works to help visitors and new members feel welcome and a part of our church family, and provides them with information about church programs. Responsibilities include calling first-time visitors on Sunday afternoon after worship to welcome them to Pineville UMC, providing snacks for The Gathering, serving as greeters at all services, collecting pew pads and writing welcome notes to visitors and new members.

Staff-Parish Relations Committee

The Staff-Parish Relations Committee oversees the needs of the pastor and staff, provides annual performance evaluations and tends to relationship issues among the pastor, staff and congregation.

Stewardship Area

Its primary goal is to educate the congregation on how the budget benefits the church’s annual programs and activities and what God says about how and why we should give back to the church and to others.
