Pineville United Methodist Church of Pineville North Carolina

—— Ministry: Children ——

Pineville UMC applies the United Methodist Church’s Safe Sanctuary policies to everyone who works with children and youth.

Acolytes

All children in grades 3 - 5 are invited to serve the church as acolytes.  Acolytes begin and end the 11 a.m. worship service by lighting and extinguishing the altar candles, symbolically bringing the light of Christ into the sanctuary and reminding the congregation to carry that light back out into the world.  They may also assist with serving communion and greeting visitors and new members.

Training is held every September.  Acolytes must complete training to serve.

Contact Nancy Yawn or the church office for more information about the acolyte program.

Children’s Church

Children ages K - grade 2 are invited to take part in a special service of singing, praise and Bible story-role play during the sermon each Sunday at both the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services.  They return before the end of the service and are included in special worship experiences such as communion.  (If Children's Church is not held, there will be special children's moments during the worship service.)

Contact Betsy Blankenship or Elaine Treece for details.

Girl Scouts

Girl Scouts of the USA is the world's largest organization dedicated to helping all girls everywhere build character and gain skills for success in the real world. In an accepting and nurturing environment, and in partnership with committed adult volunteers, girls develop strong values, leadership skills, social conscience and conviction about their own potential and self-worth that will serve them all their lives.

Upward Basketball & Cheerleading (Click here for registration)

Sports are a great way for children to learn about teamwork, respect for authority and sportsmanship. Upward is a fun, reliable, passionate and encouraging sports experience for boys and girls ages rising grade 1 – grade 6. Unique aspects of Upward include an evaluation system that promotes equal and competitive teams and a substitution system that allows for equal playing time for all participants.

Through Upward, children are exposed to quality coaching and sports development. Upward emphasizes character and integrity instead of a “win at all costs” mentality associated with today’s sports world. The emphasis is placed on having fun and good sportsmanship, not the scoreboard and standings.

Children participate in a one-hour practice and game each week.

Pineville UMC hosts two Upward Basketball and Cheerleading seasons each year.  Contact Mark Shutt for dates and details.
